WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team opened United East Conference action with their second straight win Saturday evening (March 28). St. Mary's College (4-5, 1-0 UEC) posted a 7-0 shutout of Penn College (1-5, 0-2 UEC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
- Sophomores Alex Lyman (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) and Jacob Nelson (Olney, Md./Sherwood) notched a 6-1 win at No. 1 over Kyle Shuler and Josh Myers.
- First-year Aidan Cron (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) and senior captain Max Esztergomi (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) tallied a 6-2 at the second flight over Logan Ogden and Matt Williams.
- Sophomore Dylan Courtney (Chaptico, Md./Chopticon) and junior Andrew Hand (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) shut out Avery Hawk and Valentino Barillaro at No. 3.
SINGLES
- Nelson and Hand both earned straight set victories at No. 2 and No. 5, respectively, to give the Seahawks a 3-0 lead.
- First-year Nate Willoughby (Edgewater, Md./South River) clinched the match win for SMCM with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 6 over Christian Abromovage.
- Cron (No. 3 singles) and Esztergomi (No. 1 singles) also collected straight set wins while Lyman needed a tiebreak set for a 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 triumph at No. 4 singles over Williams.
