ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team continued to roll through United East Conference competition Tuesday afternoon (March 31). St. Mary's College (7-4, 4-0 UEC) ended the month of March with a 7-0 win over Cairn University (3-5, 3-1 UEC) for its fourth straight victory. The Seahawks have posted 7-0 decisions in three of their four conference matches thus far.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
- SMCM swept all three doubles, dropping only two games between all three doubles to grab a 1-0 lead heading into singles action.
- Junior captain Lauren Lovejoy (Newburg, Md./La Plata) and sophomore Zoe Wilson (Clarksburg, Md./Holy Cross) started with a 6-0 win over Dana Brimacombe and Amanda Panaligan at the third flight.
- Sophomores Sarah Levit (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) and Lily Spedden (Cambridge, Md./Cambridge South Dorchester) followed with a 6-2 victory over Tatiana Ipri and Hajin Seo at No. 2 doubles.
- First-years Lily Ganjbaksh (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and Addyson Harden (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) rounded out doubles play by blanking Reagan Griffith and Madison Searls at the first flight.
SINGLES
- Levit (No. 2), Lovejoy (No. 4), and Ganjbaksh (No. 1) all notched straight-set wins for a 4-0 lead as Ganjbaksh clinched the match for St. Mary's College with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Griffith, this week's United East Player of the Week.
- Spedden handed Searls a 6-0 setback in the first set and went up 3-0 in the second set before Searls retired.
- Harden (No. 6) and Wilson (No. 5) finished out the match 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0 wins, respectively.
