Seahawks Drop Pair to Lancaster Bible in UEC Quarterfinals

LANCASTER, Pa. — The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team saw its postseason run come to a close on Friday, falling twice to Lancaster Bible College in a United East Conference (UEC) Quarterfinal doubleheader.

St. Mary's opened the day with a back-and-forth battle in game one, ultimately dropping a 12-11 extra-inning decision. The Seahawks came out swinging early, highlighted by a two-run home run from Connor Wilkerson in the first inning. A five-run second inning gave St. Mary's a 7-3 advantage, with Kyle Catanzaro adding a solo home run and Aaron Wathen delivering a two-run single.

The Seahawks extended their lead to 11-4 in the fifth inning behind Catanzaro's second home run of the game and a two-RBI single from Rhett Fletcher. However, Lancaster Bible chipped away, using a four-run seventh inning—powered by home runs from Donavan Boles and Malachi Sloane—to get back into the contest. The Chargers tied the game in the eighth on a solo home run before walking it off in the 10th inning on an RBI double by Dylan Witkowski.

Wilkerson and Catanzaro each drove in two runs, while Fletcher and Wathen added multi-RBI efforts. Layne Lesko paced the offense with three hits in the loss.

In game two, Lancaster Bible carried its momentum into a 10-2 victory to complete the sweep. The Chargers struck early with a two-run home run in the first inning and added to their lead with consistent offensive pressure throughout the game.

St. Mary's broke through in the fourth inning, scoring on a double-play ball, and added another run in the eighth on a fielder's choice. Rhett Fletcher and Connor Wilkerson each recorded two hits, while Aaron Wathen added a pair of hits as well.

Despite solid stretches on the mound, the Seahawks were unable to contain Lancaster Bible's lineup, which totaled 18 hits in the second game.

With the losses, St. Mary's concludes its season at 10-20-1, while Lancaster Bible advances in the UEC Tournament.
