Seahawks Women’s Tennis Season Ends in NCAA Tournament

BALTIMORE, Md. – The 2025-26 campaign for the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team ended Friday afternoon (May 8) in the First Round of the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship Tournament. St. Mary's College (14-5) fell 4-0 to No. 8 Carnegie Mellon University on the campus of Johns Hopkins University.
 
The Seahawks completed the 2025-26 season with their third trip to the NCAA Tournament as well as their third United East Conference championship crown. SMCM also collected its fourth United East regular-season title.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
  • Sophomores Sarah Levit (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) and Lily Spedden (Cambridge, Md./Cambridge South Dorchester) suffered a 6-0 loss to Divya Venkatarama and Ancele Dolensek at the No. 2 pairing.
  • Rachel Li and Shelly Zinchenko clinched the doubles point for Carnegie Mellon with a 6-0 win over team captains Lauren Lovejoy (Newburg, Md./La Plata) and Stella Manns (White Hall, Md./North Harford) at the No. 3 spot.
  • The No. 1 position featured first-years Lily Ganjbaksh (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and Addyson Harden (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) taking on the tandem of Ika Kanumuri and Kotistha Modak, who are ranked No. 7 in Division III. Kanumuri and Modak were up 5-0 when the match was called.
 
SINGLES
  • St. Mary's College took five games from the nationally-ranked Tartans in singles action.
  • Levit took on Jane Wong, who is nationally ranked at No. 18, at the No. 2 spot, falling 6-0, 6-1.
  • Lovejoy faced Venkatarama at the No. 4 position, dropping a 6-0, 6-0 decision.
  • Dolensek locked up the win for Carnegie Mellon with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Manns at No. 6.
  • When the match was clinched, Ganjbaksh was down 2-6, 0-2 to Kanumuri, who is ranked No. 24, while Spedden's set was 1-6, 0-5 to Zinchenko, who is ranked No. 44.
  • At No. 6 singles, Victoria Gazda was up 6-0, 5-1 against junior Zoe Wilson (Clarksburg, Md./Holy Cross).
