13 Seahawk Squads Earn United East Team Academic Award

READING, Pa. – Thirteen St. Mary's College of Maryland teams garnered the fourth annual United East Conference Team Academic Award as announced by the league office June 30. This honor is awarded to United East-sponsored programs that achieved a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 or higher during the 2025-26 academic year. Additionally, St. Mary's College had three squads boast the highest GPA in the conference within their respective sport.
 
The 13 Seahawk teams to pick up the United East Team Academic Award were baseball (3.25), field hockey (3.64), men's lacrosse (3.32), men's soccer (3.27), men's tennis (3.58), women's basketball (3.37), women's cross country (3.61), women's indoor track & field (3.45), women's lacrosse (3.57), women's outdoor track & field (3.45), women's soccer (3.40), women's tennis (3.54), and women's volleyball (3.61).
 
SMCM field hockey, men's lacrosse, and women's lacrosse notched the United East's highest GPA within their respective sport. This is the third straight season that St. Mary's College men's lacrosse has tallied the best GPA among its conference foes while this marks the second consecutive year for the Seahawks women's lacrosse team.
 
The St. Mary's College field hockey team led all Seahawk programs with the highest team GPA as they posted a 3.64 GPA during the academic year while women's cross country and women's volleyball tied for second with a 3.61 GPA. Rounding out the top five were men's tennis (3.58) and women's lacrosse (3.57).
 
The United East acknowledged 104 teams from all 14 core members with the Team Academic Award. SMCM, along with Lancaster Bible College and Penn State Harrisburg, led all members with 13 programs earning this distinction.
