Seahawks Battle at Maroon Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SALEM, Va. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team opened play at the Maroon Classic Friday, battling through a pair of matches at the Cregger Center. The Seahawks opened the day with a five-set battle against Salem College before falling to Greensboro College in three sets Friday evening.

St. Mary's opened the day with a hard fought five-set match against Salem, taking the first set before Salem answered with wins in the second and third. The Seahawks fought back to take the fourth set and force a deciding fifth, but Salem ultimately edged St. Mary's, 15-11, to claim the 3-2 victory.

Maya Mauro led the Seahawks with 16 kills, while Julia Bobrowski added 13 kills and 13 digs. Erienna Mendieta contributed 10 kills, and Vlada Costenco recorded seven kills while hitting .316. Stella Marrero paced the defensive effort with 19 digs, while Camilla Galeano directed the offense with 22 assists and added 11 digs. 

St. Mary's returned to the court Friday night against Greensboro, falling 3-0 by set scores of 25-18, 25-17, and 25-21. Mendieta led the Seahawks with 13 kills while hitting .318, Mauro added 10 kills and 10 digs. Bobrowski contributed three kills, nine digs. and two service aces, and Galeano paced the offense with 15 assists. Sanaa Porter added four kills, while Costenco contributed three kills and a block. 

The Seahawks will wrap up the Maroon Classic Saturday, September 12, with two more matches at the Cregger Center, facing Methodist at 1 p.m. before taking on Brevard at 3 p.m.
