SALISBURY, Md. — The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team battled John Carroll University to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at Sea Gull Soccer Stadium as part of the Salisbury Classic.

The Seahawks jumped out to an early lead when sophomore Reagan Chilton found the back of the net in the 35th minute, giving St. Mary's a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

St. Mary's goalkeeper Alexa Holmes kept the Seahawks in front throughout the opening half, making three saves as John Carroll generated 10 shots. Holmes turned aside attempts from Molly Brown, Brooke Berkowitz and Lucy Altieri during the first 45 minutes.

John Carroll continued to apply pressure after halftime, but Holmes remained steady in goal. She made three additional saves in the second half, including consecutive stops on Andrea Quintero Delgado in the 69th and 71st minutes.

The Seahawks nearly doubled their lead late in the contest. Oliviah Walton forced a save from John Carroll goalkeeper Madison Skeese in the 81st minute, while Megan Rusk sent a shot just wide in the final minute of regulation.

John Carroll eventually found the equalizer with 3:40 remaining in regulation. Molly Brown headed home a cross from Andrea Quintero Delgado in the 87th minute to bring the match even at 1-1.

The Seahawks finished the afternoon with seven shots, including three on goal, while John Carroll recorded 16 shots and seven shots on target. St. Mary's held a 4-2 advantage in shots after halftime and earned four corner kicks.

With the draw, St. Mary's moves to 1-1-3 on the season, while John Carroll moves to 1-2-1.

Next Up: St. Mary's concludes the Salisbury Classic Sunday, Sept. 13, against the University of Lynchburg. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. at Sea Gull Soccer Stadium.
