SALISBURY, Md. — The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team fell to Lynchburg, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Sea Gull Soccer Stadium.
The Seahawks (1-2-3) faced an early deficit when Leigha Gronau scored in the 15th minute, giving Lynchburg a 1-0 advantage at 14:14. Ally Hopkins provided the assist on the opening goal.
St. Mary's goalkeeper Breanna Brown kept the Seahawks within striking distance throughout the contest, making 11 saves on 13 Lynchburg shots on goal. Brown recorded six saves in the first half and five more in the second.
The Hornets extended their lead in the 52nd minute when Makayla Hargrove found the back of the net at 51:30. Hopkins and Gronau were credited with assists on the goal.
St. Mary's recorded one shot on the afternoon, with Oliviah Walton putting the lone Seahawk attempt on frame in the 43rd minute. Lynchburg finished with a 24-1 advantage in shots and an 11-4 edge in corner kicks.
The Seahawks return to action Wednesday, Sept. 16, hosting Mary Washington at 5 p.m.
