Seahawks Men’s Soccer Nipped by Bridgewater (Va.)

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Three different Seahawks found the back of the net for the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team, but St. Mary's College came up short Saturday afternoon (Sept. 19). The Seahawks (3-5) dropped a 4-3 non-conference decision to the Bridgewater (Va.) College Eagles (5-2) for their third straight one-goal loss.
 
How It Happened
  • Bridgewater flew out to a quick 2-0 lead with goals from Anthony Medrano and Luis Ibanez in the first 7:15 of the game.
  • Junior forward Nick Haney (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) put SMCM on the board in the 13th with an unassisted goal for his fifth of the season. St. Mary's College then headed into halftime in a 2-2 draw after junior midfielder Zach Blaum (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) finished off a pass from senior forward Franco Reyes (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) in the 40th minute.
  • Cole Dunbar put the Eagles back in front, 3-2, with his first goal of the season in the 57th minute.
  • The Seahawks drew even once again when senior forward Lucas Evans (Greenbelt, Md./South River) scored in the 83rd minute off an assist from senior captain Braden Kindred (Olney, Md./Sherwood).
  • Bridgewater locked up the victory with a late goal in the 88th minute off the foot of Noa Denno.
  • Kindred led SMCM's last offensive charge, taking two shots in the waning minutes. His second shot as time expired tested Davis Bashore, who denied the attempt and preserved the Eagles' win.
