ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - Fifth-year outside hitter
Julia Bobrowski (California, Md./Leonardtown) notched her 1,000 career dig Saturday afternoon as the St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team swept the Seahawks Tri-match with a pair of victories at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center. The Seahawks opened the day with a 3-0 sweep of Hood College before closing out the afternoon with a 3-1 victory over Randolph College.
St. Mary's controlled the opening match from the start, taking down Hood, 25-20, 25-12, 25-16.
Erianna Mendieta led the Seahawks with 13 kills, and Bobrowski added seven kills while hitting .500.
Hope Parrish contributed six kills in two sets, and
Maya Mauro finished with six kills while hitting .444.
Camilla Galeano paced the Seahawks with 25 assists and nine service aces, while
Stella Marrero anchored the defense with 14 digs. St. Mary's finished the match with 45 kills and 12 aces while hitting .265 as a team.
The Seahawks returned to the court Saturday afternoon against Randolph and battled to a 3-1 victory. After taking the opening set, 25-20, St. Mary's dropped the second set, 25-23, before responding with wins of 25-16, and 25-19 to close out the match.
Mauro powered the Seahawks with a match-high 16 kills and 20 digs, while Mendieta added 11 kills and Parrish chipped in 10. Bobrowski reached the 1,000-dig milestone on the first point of the opening set and finished the match with 11 digs.
With the two victories, St. Mary's improves to 7-4 on the season. The Seahawks will return to action in Fredericksburg, VA on Tuesday, September 22 as they take on Mary Washington.
