Seahawks Battle McDaniel to Scoreless Draw

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. — The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team battled McDaniel College to a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net through 90 minutes, as St. Mary's goalkeeper Breanna Brown turned in a strong performance with eight saves to keep the Seahawks in the match..

McDaniel generated 21 shots, including 11 on goal, while St. Mary's recorded five shots with none finding the target. The Green Terror also held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Green Terror applied pressure early, but Brown was up to the task. She stopped shots from Josie Scanlon and Ava Kolb in the opening minutes before making additional saves on Alaina Miller and Alexis Keller-Posen. McDaniel continued to test the Seahawk defense throughout the half, but St. Mary's entered halftime tied at 0-0.

St. Mary's created a pair of opportunities early in the second half when Makayla Marvray registered shots in the 57th and 59th minutes. Brown continued her strong play at the other end, making saves on Scanlon, Carly Brock and Kolb to preserve the shutout.

The Seahawks nearly broke through late, with Sidney Shaw sending a shot wide in the 78th minute before Charlotte Bryan recorded a shot in the 83rd minute. Neither team could find the decisive goal, however, as the contest ended in a 0-0 draw.

With the draw, St. Mary's moves to 1-1-1 on the season, while McDaniel moves to 1-0-2.

Next Up: St. Mary's returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 9, when the Seahawks host Stevenson University at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
