The school's all-time winningest coach, Chris Harney '97 embarks on his 19th season at the helm of the Seahawk men's basketball program in 2023-24. Harney is one of the top coaches in Division III, maintaining St. Mary's College in the conference, regional, and national spotlights.

He was promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics & Recreation in Summer 2016. Harney's administrative duties include supervising baseball and working closely with the Office of Admission. Five years later (October 2021), the Pt. Pleasant, N.J., native was named an Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee (ADID). As an ADID, Harney serves as a primary point of contact to receive and distribute information around diversity and inclusion topics.

Under Harney's leadership, the Seahawks have collected 10 winning seasons, six Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) regular-season championship titles, six 20-plus win campaigns, five NCAA Tournament berths, four NCAA Sweet 16 appearances, and two NCAA Elite 8 showings.

Harney and the Seahawks set the school's single-season record for wins with 27 during the 2012-13 campaign. He became the school's all-time winningest coach during his sixth season (2010-11) as head coach with a 74-56 win over Marymount (VA.) University on January 5, 2011, for his 101st career win. That same season, the Seahawks made the program's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Elite 8.

In his third season (2007-08), the Seahawks turned around an 11-11 campaign with eight straight wins, won the CAC tournament championship title, notched the school's first-ever NCAA tournament berth, and advanced to the Sweet 16.
