Elam Ruff joined the Seahawks men's basketball coaching staff prior to the 2021-22 season.

Ruff comes to St. Mary’s College after serving as the lead assistant varsity boy’s basketball coach under Joe Wootten at Bishop O’Connell H.S. in Arlington, Va. In his four seasons with the program, he helped guide O’Connell to three 20-win seasons and three Top 5 finishes in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference while also coaching eight current Division I basketball players.

The Washington, D.C., native also played an integral role in facilitating Coach Wootten’s Basketball Camp, which is one of the most renowned basketball camps and services over 2,000 athletes year-round.

Prior to O’Connell, Ruff assisted in the University of the District of Columbia and Rio Hondo College (Whittier, Calif.) athletic departments with basketball gameday operations.

Ruff is a former three-year varsity basketball starter at Bell Multicultural H.S. in D.C.
