Tommy Rinder returned to his alma mater as the assistant men's lacrosse coach and assistant director of athletic communications in November 2021. Rinder serves as the defensive coordinator for the Seahawks while being the primary athletic communications contact for men's and women's cross country, women's soccer, men's and women's tennis (fall semester), women's basketball, baseball, and men's and women's rowing.
The Annapolis, Md., native has helped St. Mary's College rank in the Top 5 in the United East Conference in man-down defense, goals against average, and caused turnovers per game. In 2023, the Seahawks led the conference and ranked 17th in Division III with denying 43.9-percent of opponents' man-up offense.
In his two years as the defensive coordinator, he has coached the 2023 United East Defensive Player of the Year, two United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Honorable Mention All-Americans, and eight All-United East selections
As a player, Rinder was a four-year member of the Seahawks men's lacrosse program (2018-2021). He saw action in 54 games with 42 starts, recording 99 ground balls and caused 50 turnovers. As a senior, Rinder served as a team captain and collected All-Coast-To-Coast (C2C) Athletic Conference Second Team honors as a defenseman. He was also named a 2021 USILA Scholar All-American while making three consecutive conference All-Academic Teams.
