Skrickus Lifts Seahawks in OT

Box Score

St. Mary's City, Md. - Senior forward Amy Skrickus (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) corralled freshman Allie Skiest's (Arnold, Md./Seton Keough) pass inside the circle as time was winding down and drilled the game-winner into the lower right corner with just one second left in the first overtime period, giving the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team a 3-2 overtime victory over Wesley College in the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals Wednesday afternoon.

The Skrickus goal punched St. Mary's ticket to Saturday's CAC Championship for the first time in Seahawk program history.  The Seahawks (12-4) will face 12-time defending champion and this year's top-seed, Salisbury University, at 1:00.  Salisbury eliminated fifth-seeded University of Mary Washington by a score of 3-0 today also.

Wesley, a first-year member of the Capital Athletic Conference, struck first when senior midfielder Danielle Vincent (Camden, Del./Lake Forest) blasted a shot into the near left post off an assist by senior forward Susan Neylan (Dover, Del./Dover) at 19:54.

Just under eight minutes later, the Seahawks knotted the game at 1-1 following Skrickus' first goal of the day at 27:35.  Skrickus took a pass from senior defender Halley Pack (Frederick, Md./Frederick) and reverse flicked it to the left of senior goalie LeAnne Hyslop (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) for the equalizer.

However, the Wolverines (12-5) would take a 2-1 lead into halftime as Wesley scored of a penalty corner.  Neylan hit the ball out to Vincent who then passed it to her left to junior forward Taryn Neeman (Felton, Del./Lake Forest).  Neeman did the rest as she rifled it into the lower right corner at 30:47.

Junior forward Emily Norris (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) tied the game once more at 2-2 with her unassisted goal at 37:14.  Norris put back a rebound for her sixth goal of the season.

Wesley had a potential go ahead goal called back with 17:50 left in regulation because the shot was taken just outside the circle.

The Wolverines dominated penalty corners with a 19-8 advantage, while St. Mary's held a 12-9 margin on shots.

Senior Emily Richards (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) notched her 12th win of the season with five saves.  Hyslop finished the contest with five stops as well for Wesley.
