Box Score

Salisbury, Md. - The nationally-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team claimed its 13th straight Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Championship with a 5-0 shutout victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland Saturday afternoon.

The third-ranked Sea Gulls (18-1) wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard as Kandice Hancock fired in a shot from the top of the circle that was deflected into the goal by Ashley Twigg for a 1-0 lead at 1:47.

It was 2-0 in favor of the CAC Tournament's top seed eight minutes later when Hancock rifled in another shot that this time was deflected by Caitlyn Ruffus for her first goal of the day.

Ruffus tripled the score with her second goal of the contest as she finished a pass from Lauren Correll at 17:35.

The Sea Gulls carried a 4-0 advantage into halftime following an unassisted goal by Jami Gobao as Gobao put back a rebound off the pads of senior Emily Richards (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) at 24:16.

Salisbury just added one goal in the second half as Correll notched her 21st goal of the season at 60:25 off of Hancock's third assist of the game.

The Sea Gulls outshot St. Mary's (12-5), 16-1, and posted a 13-3 advantage of penalty corners.  Three of Salisbury's goals were a direct result of penalty corners.

Maria Ramoundos made no saves in earning her sixth shutout of the season.  Richards finished with five saves for the Seahawks.

St. Mary's completes the 2007 campaign with a 12-5 overall record, marking the third straight season that the Hawks have finished the year with a 12-5 mark.  The Seahawks went 5-1 in CAC action which is the best conference record by any St. Mary's field hockey squad since field hockey became a varsity sport in 1994.
