midfielder Amanda Bramble's (Easton, Md./Easton)
first tally of the season keyed the St. Mary's College of Maryland
field hockey team's 3-2 overtime win over Washington (Md.) College
Wednesday night in non-conference action.
Nearly eight minutes into the first overtime period, junior
midfielder Allie Skiest (Arnold, Md./Seton Keough)
directed a wide cross through the circle following a penalty corner
and Bramble knocked it in for the game-winner at
77:53.
Junior forward Caitlin Grice (Hampstead,
Md./North Carroll) gave the Seahawks (4-3) an early 1-0 lead at
14:11 as Grice put back a loose ball for her first
goal of the season following a save by senior goalie Elena
Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, Pa./Lackawanna Trail).
St. Mary's increased its lead to 2-0 at 33:01 when freshman
forward Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg)
blasted in a shot on the run for her team-leading third goal of
2009.
Washington (2-4) cut the visitor's lead to 2-1 at 58:06 as
senior forward Kelsey Kemp (Stroudsburg,
Pa./Stroudsburg) sent in a pass to the center of the circle where
sophomore forward Emily Tress (Kensington,
Md./Connelly) deflected it in for her third tally of the year.
The Shorewomen knotted the contest at 2-all as this time
Kemp converted a feed from Tress
at 64:38, forcing overtime.
Junior Emma Lauhoff (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) needed
just three saves on eight shots faced to help record the Seahawk
victory.
Nicholoff tallied nine stops on 16 shots faced
in the loss.
St. Mary's edged the Shorewomen in penalty corners, 13 to 9.
The Seahawks will return to action this coming Saturday,
September 26 when the Seahawks travel to Lynchburg, Va. to take on
No. 14 Lynchburg College at 1:00 pm in non-conference action.
Lynchburg will be St. Mary's second top 25 team this year.
