St. Mary's City, Md. – The St.
Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team rebounded in the
afternoon with a sweep of Lancaster Bible College after dropping a
3-0 decision to Capital Athletic Conference newcomer, Frostburg
State University, Saturday morning.
Seniors Claire Kodan (Olney, Md./Sherwood) and
Katie Obal (Olney, Md./Sherwood) were recognized
prior to the start of the Frostburg State match in honor of their
four years of service to the Seahawk volleyball program. The
duo has amassed an outstanding four-year overall record of 94-35,
including a league mark of 21-10. Their leadership guided the
Seahawks to back-to-back appearances in the CAC championship match
in 2007 and 2008. They also helped St. Mary's set the
school record for wins in a season with 30 as first-years.
In their match against Frostburg State (27-3), the Seahawks
struggled offensively, generating only 24 kills and a .088 hitting
percentage in three sets. Frostburg claimed the match 25-20,
25-14, 25-20 to remain atop of the conference standings with a
perfect 7-0 mark while the loss dropped St. Mary's to 4-3 in
league action.
Kodan paced St. Mary's (19-7) with eight
kills and 13 digs while sophomore Cecilia Blanc
(Laytonsville, Md./Poolesville) also nabbed 13 digs.
Obal picked up a double-double with 22 assists and
a dozen digs.

Trish Kallis (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) each
collected 10 kills in leading the Seahawks to a 25-14, 25-23, 25-22
victory over Lancaster Bible (13-20). Kallis
posted a .588 hitting percentage, making no errors in 17
attempts. Kodan recorded her seventh
double-double of the season as she added a team-best 15 digs.
Blanc notched 10 digs and two kills while
Obal and first-year setter Elaina
Straub (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) combined for 25
assists.
St. Mary's will be back in action Wednesday, October 27 as
the Seahawks travel to Owings Mills to face Stevenson University in
the final league match of the season at 7:00 pm.
