St. Mary's City, Md. – First-year forward
Rebecca Hasz (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) found the
back of the cage at 23:03 to lift No. 2 Salisbury University to a
1-0 Capital Athletic Conference field hockey victory over St.
Mary's College of Maryland Sunday afternoon.
Hasz deflected in junior forward
Caitlin Walker's (Fallston, Md./Fallston) shot for
the only tally of the contest between the conference's only two
unbeaten squads.
Salisbury (7-1, 3-0 CAC), who controlled time of possession in
the first half, took 16 shots in the first 35 minutes while holding
the Seahawks to none.
St. Mary's (7-2, 2-1 CAC) picked up the intensity in the second
half, producing quality opportunities in their attacking end.
Sophomore forward Lauriann Parker
(Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) had an excellent chance to even up the game
at 66:46 but her flick towards goal was put over the top of the
cage by the Sea Gulls' junior defender Tara
McGovern (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland).
The Seahawks were excellent in the defensive end, keeping
Salisbury to just one goal despite facing 25 penalty corners.
The Sea Gulls finished with 26 shots in the game to St. Mary's four
while the Seahawks were awarded four corners.
Parker, the reigning Capital Athletic
Conference Offensive Player of the Week, was held scoreless for the
first time this season as she only took two shots on the day.
Senior goalie Lydia Garcia
(Bowie, Md./Seton) picked up a season-high 12 stops in the loss
while senior defender Blair Lusby
(Pocomoke, Md./Holly Grove Christian) had a defensive save.
Junior Anna Cooke (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor
Pioneer) made just one save as the Sea Gulls recorded their sixth
shutout of the season.
The Seahawks will be back in action this Tuesday, September 28
as they travel to Dover, Delaware to take on Wesley College (6-3,
2-1 CAC) in another conference tilt at 7:00 pm.
