Box Score Salisbury, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team dropped a 2-0 Capital Athletic Conference decision to No. 5 Salisbury University on Wednesday evening, holding the Sea Gulls scoreless in the second half.
The loss slips St. Mary's (6-8, 1-4 CAC) to a tie for sixth place with Frostburg State University (8-7, 1-2 CAC) in the conference standings but the Seahawks hold the head-to-head tiebreaker with Frostburg State following their 1-0 road win on October 10.
Salisbury (10-2, 3-0 CAC) opened up the scoring at 17:53 when senior forward Courtney Jantzen (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) sent in a cross from the right side and junior forward Becca Rinaca (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) one-timed it in at the left post.
The Sea Gulls claimed their 2-0 lead at 23:05 as first-year forward Catherine Sweeney (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) collected a loose ball in front of the cage following broken penalty corner and finished into the right side.
Salisbury outshot the Seahawks, 20-1, and posted a 16-1 margin in penalty corners.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Thompson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) turned away 10 shots in St. Mary's third straight loss while sophomore Tressie Windsor (Delmar, Md./Delmar) denied the Seahawks' only shot of the contest as junior forward Carly Todd (Crisfield, Md./Crisfield) put one on frame in the first half.
The Seahawks will host Wesley College (3-12, 0-4 CAC) for their regular-season finale next Wednesday, October 28 in Seahawk Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
