St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team was shut out for the second time in three games Wednesday afternoon. St. Mary's succumbed to a 3-0 setback at the hands of the visiting Shenandoah University Hornets.

How It Happened

• St. Mary's was the aggressor in the first half, outshooting the Hornets, 12-0, and earning four penalty corners.
• The Seahawks almost headed into halftime with a 1-0 lead but their goal at 1:27 was called back.
• Shenandoah scored on its first shot of the game at 41:46 when first-year defender Megan Stevens (Blairstown, N.J./Blair Academy) finished off a cross from the right side off the stick of junior midfielder Elizabeth Pardo (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville).
• Sophomore forward Kayla Alderman (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) made it a 2-0 game at 49:25 when Alderman received the insert from sophomore defender Morgan Payne (Jobstown, N.J./Northern Burlington) and put it in the back of the cage.
• With her back to the goal and on the goalie's pads, Stevens struck again at 58:30 to seal the Hornets' third win of the season.

For the Seahawks (1-6)

• Scorers: None.
• Goalkeeper: Alyssa Thompson (two saves, 3 goals allowed, 70:00).
• St. Mary's finished the game with 20 shots and nine penalty corners.

For Shenandoah (3-4)

• Scorers: Stevens (2 goals); Alderman (1 goal); Pardo (1 assist); Payne (1 assist).
• Goalkeeper: Jessica Brown (9 saves, 0 goals allowed, 70:00).
• Shenandoah recorded six shots and four corners – all in the second half.

Notes

• Shenandoah is now 4-2 against the Seahawks and have now won two straight.
• St. Mary's is currently riding a four-game skid.

Up Next for the Seahawks

• This will be the first-ever meeting between St. Mary's and Rhodes.
