Seahawks Women’s Soccer Falls at Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – First-year Emma Tawney (Parkville, Md./Eastern Technical), this week's United East Conference Defensive Player of the Week, put on another strong performance but the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team saw their unbeaten streak halted at three Wednesday afternoon. The Seahawks (6-4-3) dropped a 2-0 decision on the road to former conference foe, University of Mary Washington (3-5-1).
 
How It Happened
  • Mary Washington tallied a goal early in each half to stretch its win streak to two.
  • The Eagles' first goal came in the 16th minute as Riley Boyd subbed in the 15th minute and a minute later notched her first goal of the season off an assist by Lindsey Hendrickson.
  • Mary Washington headed into halftime with the 1-0 lead as the hosts outshot St. Mary's College, 7-2.
  • UMW struck again in the 50th minute as Abby Zimmerman tallied an unassisted goal for her first of the season and a two-goal Eagle advantage.
  • The Mary Washington defense played its part in the win, limiting the Seahawks to just one shot.

  • The Eagles finished the game with a 17-3 shot advantage as well as a 9-2 margin in corner kicks.
