ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team dominated Wednesday night (Oct. 11) in locking up their second Atlantic East Conference win of the season and maintaining an unblemished league mark. St. Mary's College (7-5, 2-0 AEC) posted an 8-0 triumph over the visiting Knights of Neumann University (3-10, 1-2 AEC) for their fourth shutout of the year.
How It Happened
- The Seahawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter as four different players found the back of the cage. Sophomore midfielder Josie Shermeyer (Harrisburg, Pa./East Pennsboro Area) sent St. Mary's into the first break with a four-goal cushion as Shermeyer notched her first collegiate goal at 14:31 off an assist from junior captain Charlotte Horn (Schnecksville, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh).
- St. Mary's stretched its lead to 5-0 in the second period behind a goal from first-year midfielder Alyssa Riggleman (Sudlersville, Md./Queen Anne's County).
- Following halftime, the Seahawks tacked on two more goals from sophomore forwards Brenna Ziegler (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) and Briana Allen (Bowie, Md./Mount de Sales) for a 7-0 margin.
- First-year Tori Hampton (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) also picked up her first career goal as Hampton put the finishing touches on the Seahawk scoring in the 51st minute.

- St. Mary's dominated in every way as the Seahawks posted a 28-1 (13-1 on goal) shot advantage as well as an 8-1 penalty corner margin.
- Neumann's lone shot came in the first frame off the stick of Jamie Reed, but it was easily handled by junior Kaley Christman (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick).
St. Mary's College Game Notes
- Ziegler led the Seahawks with two goals while sophomore forward Emma Watkins (Frederick, Md./Linganore) finished with a career-best four points on one goal and career-high two assists.
- Riggleman contributed a career-best three points with one goal and one helper.
- Christman earned her first start of the season and combined with first-years Caroline McDonald (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and Payden Knoll (Fallston, Md./Fallston) for the team's fourth shutout of the season.
- The Seahawks improved their record against Neumann to 8-0, outscoring the Knights, 43-1, in those contests.

- Emma Schneider made four saves in the first half while Caley Gee took over for the second half and made one stop.
