St. Mary’s College Men’s Soccer Nabs First Conference Win

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team collected their first United East Conference win of the season Saturday afternoon (Oct. 14). St. Mary's College (6-4-3, 1-1-1 UEC) came back from the home of the Little League World Series with a 3-1 win over host Penn College (6-5-3, 1-2-1 UEC).
 
How It Happened
  • Junior forward Alex Ochman (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton) put the Seahawks on the scoreboard first as Ochman found the back of the net in the 19th minute for his second tally of the season.
  • The Wildcats were outshot 10-1 in the first half but made the most of their one shot, netting the equalizer in 20th minute off the foot of Jimmy Friedman.
  • Sophomore midfielder Jack Nelson (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) sent St. Mary's into the break with a 2-1 advantage as Nelson slipped one past Cole Catherman at 44:59, finishing off a pass from senior defender Cooper Clendenin (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase).
  • St. Mary's maintained the offensive pressure in the second half, but it was Penn College who sealed the win for the Seahawks with an own goal in the 54th minute.
  • The Seahawks generated two more quality scoring opportunities at 67:06 and 86:00 as midfielders Braden Kindred (Olney, Md./Sherwood) and Andrew Martinelli (Rockville, Md./Wheaton) both tested Catherman.
