St. Mary's Volleyball Downs Penn College to Secure Spot in Playoffs

Williamsport, PA - The St. Mary's College Volleyball team traveled to Williamsport Pennsylvania to take on the Wildcats of Penn College in their final regular season United East Conference match. The Seahawks downed the Wildcats 3 - 1 to secure their spot in the playoffs.

How it Happened

  • The Seahawks kept the beginning of the first set tight, tying the score 5-5 after being scored on first. The Wildcats initially took the lead (12-7) but the Seahawks caught back up and tied the set 16-16 with a service ace from Julia Bobrowski. The Seahawks slowly but surely crept ahead of the Wildcats and won the first set 25-18.

  • The second set proved to be more difficult for the Seahawks, as the Wildcats created a four-point gap early on (7-3). The Seahawks continued to fight, tying the set up 16-16. The set was kept within one point up until the 23rd point where the Wildcats notched a kill and service ace to take the second set 25-23. 

  • The Seahawks responded in the third set by creating a seven-point lead early on in the set (10-3) with three service aces from Camilla Galeano. While the Wildcats attempted to come back, they were unable to recover and the Seahawks took the third set 25-14.

  • The fourth and final set started strong as the Seahawks had eight unanswered points (12-2). These points included kills from Jillian Zukley, Arielle Lubeck, and Meghan Stevens. Camilla Galeano also had four service aces within those unanswered points. The Seahawks were determined to seal their playoff spot and continued to create space between them and the Wildcats (19-9). Two kills from Arielle Lubeck and one from Meghan Stevens notched the fourth and final set for the Seahawks (25-16).

 The St. Mary's College Volleyball team has secured their spot in the United East Conference playoffs. The first round will be on Saturday, November 4th.
