BALTIMORE, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team faced the Greyhounds of Division I Loyola University Maryland Friday afternoon (Dec. 22) in an exhibition game. St. Mary's College fell 91-57 to the Greyhounds in the 10th all-time meeting between the two sides.
How It Happened
- Loyola shot nearly 61-percent in the first half as the Greyhounds held on for a 43-33 halftime advantage.
- Deon Perry led all scorers at the break with 14 points as Perry connected on four three-point field goals. Perry's fourth three-pointer of the half gave the Hounds a 20-6 advantage with 9:02 to go until intermission.
- First-year guard Kyree Smith's (Baltimore, Md./City) three-pointer at 8:39 sparked St. Mary's comeback flight.
- The Seahawks drained five more shots from beyond the arc and went 5-of-6 at the free throw line to close the gap to seven with 40 seconds on the clock before D'Angelo Stines knocked down a trey 15 seconds for the 10-point Loyola halftime lead.
- St. Mary's started the second half with a 10-5 spurt in the first two minutes and cut the deficit to five as senior captain Hollique Johnson (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) tallied half of the team's points in the run.
- Loyola doubled up the Seahawks in the second half, 48-24, as the hosts used a 15-4 run over the next six minutes to pull away and secure their second win of the season.
