ASHLAND, Va. – Seven different Seahawks found the back of the net Wednesday night (Feb. 22) as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team battled the host Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets. Randolph-Macon (1-1) held St. Mary's College (1-2) scoreless in the third period and posted a 16-10 non-conference win over the Seahawks.
How It Happened
- Randolph-Macon drew blood first, but the Seahawks responded with three straight, including a goal and an assist from sophomore attackman Keegan Preis (Upper Falls, Md./Loyola Blakefield), to stake a 3-1 lead.
- The Yellow Jackets scored two of the final three goals of the first quarter to cut the deficit to 4-3.
- St. Mary's started the second frame by scoring three of the first four to go up 7-4 before R-MC closed out the first half on a 3-0 run to send the game into halftime deadlocked at 7-7.
- The hosts picked up right where they left off, stretching their run to 7-0 with four unanswered goals to regain the lead and head into the fourth stanza ahead 11-7.
- The Yellow Jacket defense held St. Mary's scoreless in the third quarter, limiting them to five shots while the Seahawks committed a game-high seven turnovers.
- The Seahawks found their footing at the start of the fourth, scoring the first two goals to pull within 11-9; however, they would get no closer as Randolph-Macon ended the game on a 5-1 run to notch its first win of the season.

- St. Mary's outshot the hosts, 39-32, and out-hustled R-MC, 29-26, for ground balls.

- Preis and sophomore attackman Aiden Doyle (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) both finished with team-bests of three points.
- Preis matched his career-best of two goals while Doyle dished out a season-best two assists.
- Seniors Cal Wilcox (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and Walker Krizman (Damascus, Md./Damascus) each tallied two goals to round out the three Seahawks with multiple goals tonight.
- Senior Mitch Boudreau (Towson, Md./Towson) won 14-of-26 face-offs and scooped up a season-best nine ground balls.
- Junior defenseman Ethan Little (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and sophomore defensive midfielder Quinnten Hatfield (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) led the defensive effort with two caused turnovers each.
- Senior goalie Ben Robertson (Davidsonville, Md./South River) made six saves in the loss.
Randolph-Macon Game Notes
- Jack Smith found the back of the net five times while JD Spotts won 14-of-25 face-offs.
- In goal, Owen Gucwa posted 16 saves for his first win of the season in goal.
