ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – First-year attackman
Joshua Martel (Linthicum, Md./North County) made himself known Saturday afternoon (Feb. 25) in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team to a dominant non-conference win. St. Mary's College (2-2) snapped a two-game skid with a 24-10 victory over the visiting Whittier College Poets (0-3) as Martel put up five goals for his first career goals as a Seahawk.
How It Happened
- Whittier staked an early 2-1 lead six minutes into the game behind goals from Kalwin Iha and Alex Coco. However, that would be the Poets last lead of the game as St. Mary's went on an eight-goal tear and headed into the second quarter with a 9-2 lead.
- After senior attackman Walker Krizman (Damascus, Md./Damascus) notched a man-up goal to start the second, Whittier put an end to the 9-0 Seahawk run with three unanswered scores to cut the deficit to 10-5 with 6:33 remaining in the half. The Seahawks responded with five straight as five different players found the back of the net to go into halftime with a 15-5 advantage.
- The Poets' Nathan Palumbo scored the first of the third but then St. Mary's took over with a 6-0 run that carried into the fourth period to boast a 21-6 lead with 11:18 left in the game.
- In the final 11 minutes, Whittier edged the Seahawks, 4-3, for the 24-10 final.

- It was a 53-25 shot margin for St. Mary's while the Seahawks came out on top, 47-20, in ground balls.
- The hosts claimed 23 of 35 face-offs as senior Mitch Boudreau (Towson, Md./Towson) won 18 in 26 tries and scooped up a career- and game-high 11 ground balls.

- Sophomore attackman Aiden Doyle (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) also tallied a season-best six points on a goal and career-high five assists.
- Sophomore attackman Keegan Preis (Upper Falls, Md./Loyola Blakefield) had a career performance as well with career-bests of two goals, three assists, and five points.
- Defensemen Brandon Dabkowski (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) and Cole Harden (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) notched their first career goals as Dabkowski scored twice and Harden added one in the fourth.
- Senior goalie Ben Robertson (Davidsonville, Md./South River) gave up six goals and made six saves in 45 minutes of action.
Whittier Game Notes
- Four different Poets scored twice while Owen Wallace tallied a team-best four points on a goal and three assists.
- In goal, Jayden Warlum gave up 22 goals and made 10 stops in 55 minutes.
