NORTH BETHESDA, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-10 decision to No. 18 Denison University (3-1) Tuesday night (March 14). Sophomore attackman
Keegan Preis (Upper Falls, Md./Loyola Blakefield) paced St. Mary's College (5-4) with two goals and two assists.
How It Happened
- The Seahawks staked a 2-1 lead with 8:43 left in the first quarter behind goals from Preis and sophomore attackman Aiden Doyle (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck). Denison responded with two consecutive goals to tally its first lead of the game, 3-2, at 5:41. Senior midfielder PJ Fenchak (Lutherville, Md./Towson) sent the game into the second period deadlocked at 3-3.
- St. Mary's outscored the Big Red, 3-1, in the second frame to take a 6-4 lead into halftime as junior midfielder Johnny McGrain (Lutherville-Timonium, Md./Dulaney), Preis, and sophomore defensive midfielder Quinnten Hatfield (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright).
- Denison put together a 10-4 run over the final 30 minutes of the game, including scoring twice as time expired to end the third and fourth quarters.
- The Big Red opened the second half with four unanswered goals to regain their first lead (8-6) since 3-2 in the first period. The two sides traded goals to end the third and Denison maintained its two-goal lead (9-7).
- Denison stretched its advantage to 11-7 with 10:28 remaining in the game behind goals from Jack Hines and Ethan Tyack.
- McGrain and senior captain Cal Wilcox (Fallston, Md./Fallston) got two back for the Seahawks, but the Big Red closed out the game on a 3-1 run.

- Both defenses played well with Denison notching 13 caused turnovers and the Seahawk defense collecting 12 forced turnovers.
- St. Mary's edged the Big Red, 36-33, in shots while Denison held the advantage in ground balls, 35-27.
- Senior Mitch Boudreau (Towson, Md./Towson) won 13-of-25 face-offs to give the Seahawks the edge in that statistical category.

- Fenchak and McGrain both finished with two goals while Wilcox chipped in a goal and an assist.
- Boudreau paced the team with 10 ground balls while defensemen Ethan Little (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and Jeremy Heath (Chester, Md./Kent Island) each matched their career-high of three caused turnovers.
- Senior goalie Ben Robertson (Davidsonville, Md./South River) made 11 saves and scooped up two ground balls in the Seahawks second loss in a row.
Denison Game Notes
- Tyack and Nate Kay each scored three goals Luke Fisher dished out three assists.
- Archer Darrach turned away 11 shots to get the Big Red back in the win column.
