St. Mary's City, MD-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Baseball Team (3-5) opened up United East Conference Play, welcoming the Wells College Express (5-8) to St. Mary's City. The Seahawks earned their first conference win of the year, taking down the express 12-3.Â
How It HappenedÂ

The Seahawks led the Express 3-1 after the opening first three innings of play. The bats of the Seahawks wasted no time warming up, as they scored three quick runs in the top of the first inning. St. Mary's scored their first run of the afternoon with Ian Adams scoring from third when Cole Tarleton was walked with the bases loaded. The biggest play of the inning came when George Berbakos singled to center field with the bases loaded to bring two runners home.

The Express were able to tie things at three before the Seahawks responded in the bottom of the fourth inning with three runs to double their lead. Dan Weeden was able to bring two runners home with an RBI double to get the scoring started. Later in the inning, Dan Weeden made it home on a fielder's choice after George Berbakos grounded out to short.Â

St. Mary's would keep the momentum rolling into the fifth inning and started to pull away from the Express. Adrian Auber got the scoring started in the inning with a single that brought home Garrett Pullium and Ian Walters. Auber would score later in the inning after Dan Weeden connected on another single to left field. Cole Tarleton put the exclamation mark on the inning with an RBI double that allowed Dan Weeden and Chase O'Dell to get home from first and third. The Seahawks took an 11-3 lead after five innings.

George Berbakos added an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly that sent home Cole Tarleton to extend the lead to eight. St. Mary's would end up taking the contest, 12-3.Â
