Lancaster, PA-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Baseball Team (6-7) concluded their three game series with United East Conference Foe Lancaster Bible College (3-14) this morning (Mar. 27). The Seahawks fell to the Chargers 12-11 in a thriller.Â
How It HappenedÂ

The Seahawks built an early 4-0 lead after an active first inning. St. Mary's capitalized on Lancaster Bible Fielding Errors to score four unearned runs to start the game. The biggest play in the early going came on a Gavin Wathen double to left field that sent home George Berbakos. Despite the fast start, the Seahawks would fall behind 6-4 after the first three innings of play.Â

The bats began to wake up again for the Seahawks in the middle innings. Adrian Auber recaptured the momentum for St. Mary's when he sent a ball over the fence for a home run in the top of the fourth inning in what was Auber's second home run of the year. St. Mary's continued to rely on the long ball for offense in the top of the fifth inning. Chase O'Dell and Cole Tarleton both made contact on solo shots to give the Seahawks their sixth and seventh runs of the ball game. Despite the big plays, St. Mary's trailed 10-7 going into the sixth inning.Â

With their backs against the wall in the top of the ninth inning, the Seahawks trailed 12-8 in desperate need of a spark. Cole Tarleton singled, while Ian Walters got hit by a pitch to begin the the inning offensively, Down to their final out, Gavin Wathen came up huge for St. Mary's. Wathen delivered the Seahawks' fourth home run of the game to come within one of the Chargers. The comeback attempt would fall just short. Lancaster Bible took the contest, 12-11.Â
