Chase O'Dell and Cole Tarleton Both Connect on their Fourth Home Runs of the Year. Seahawks Fall in Doubleheader with Penn State Abington

Jenkintown, PA-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Baseball Team (6-15) made the trip to Pennsylvania to take on Penn State Abington (14-14) in a United East Conference Doubleheader. The Seahawks dropped game one 11-0 and game two 14-9.

How It Happened (Game 1)

  • The Seahawks were held hitless over the first six innings, but managed to connect on a double in the top of the seventh behind the bat of Dan Weeden. The Nittany Lions did most of their damage in the bottom of the second and sixth, combining for nine runs over those innings. Penn State Abington came out on top 11-0 in game one.

Inside the Box Score (Game 1)

  • Erik Thomas pitched four innings and faced 23 batters with five strikeouts. Ryder Chalk got two innings of work and gave up four earned runs, facing 11 batters.

How It Happened (Game 2)

  • Chase O'Dell got the scoring started for the Seahawks in game two, hitting a solo homerun in the top of the first innings to give St. Mary's a 1-0 lead. The Nittany Lions responded with a home run of their own to take a 2-1 lead into the third inning. In a crazy turn of events, George Berbakos would send a third ball over the fence in just the third inning of play. The Seahawks doubled up the Nittany Lions 4-2 going into the bottom of the third after George Berbakos' three run shot.

  • In a wild back and forth start to the game, Penn State Abington would find themselves leading 5-4 going into the fourth inning. Trevor Smith would advance home to tie the game on a balk, setting up Chase O'Dell to rip the game wide open. O'Dell crushed his second homer of the game, this one a two run shot to give the Seahawks a 7-5 lead going into the middle innings.

  • The Nittany Lions would inch back to within one before Cole Tarleton extended the Seahawk cushion back to two with a solo home run that made the game 8-6. That would be the fourth long ball of the day for St. Mary's.

  • The Nittany Lions would go on to score nine of the next ten runs and take the game by a final of 14-9.
