Match Recap: Women's Tennis | | Allison Szymanski '17

St. Mary's College Women's Tennis Remains Undefeated in United East Conference Play

St. Mary's City, MD. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Tennis team hosted the Wildcats of Penn College in a United East Conference match. The match was cut short due to several lightning delays. All three doubles matches were played, but only the number one, two, and three singles spots were able to compete. The Seahawks swept the Wildcats 6-0. 

How It Happened:

Doubles

  • The Seahawks won all three of the doubles matchups. There were only two points scored against the Seahawks in the doubles matches. 

  • Diana Levit and Hannah Gorel won the number one doubles spot, scoring 8-1.

  • Amber Manspeaker and Sydney Anderson continued the doubles success in the number two doubles spot with a score of 8-1.

  • Giselle Harris and Ellie Walter shut out the third and final doubles win with a score of 8-0.

Singles

  • The Seahawks won the three singles they were able to finish before the inclement weather.

  • Diana Levit shut her opponent out in the number one singles spot in both sets 6-0. 

  • Hannah Gorel continued the shutout streak in the number two spot, winning both sets 6-0.

  • Amber Manspeaker took the number three singles spot in stride with another 6-0 shutout in two sets. 

  • Sydney Anderson started the number four singles spot strong, winning the first set 6-1. However, her second set was interrupted by lightning forcing it to go unfinished at 4-0.

  • Giselle Harris won the first set of the number five singles spot 6-0. However, she was unable to complete her second set and went unfinished.

  • Bella Sterner won the first set of the number six singles spot 6-0 but also did not complete the second set due to weather conditions. 

Up Next for the Seahawks

The Seahawks will be back in action on Tuesday, April 18th for a United East Conference match-up against Penn State Harrisburg. The Seahawks will travel to Middletown, Pennsylvania to compete with the Nittany Lions at 3:00 pm.
