Match Recap: Women's Tennis | | Allison Szymanski '17

St. Mary's College Women's Tennis Advances to United East Conference Championship

Hershey, PA. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Tennis team traveled to Hershey, Pennsylvania to take on Penn State Abington in the United East Conference tournament semi-finals at the Hershey Racquet Club. The Seahawks defeated the Nittany Lions on the road 5 - 0 and advanced to the United East Conference Championship.

How It Happened:

Doubles

  • The Seahawks won all three of their doubles matches.

  • Diana Levit and Hannah Gorel fought hard in the number one doubles spot. They took their Nittany Lion opponents into an extra set. The pair won the extra set 7-5 which brought them to an overall 8-7 doubles win.

  • Amber Manspeaker and Sydney Anderson took the number two doubles spot in stride winning 8-1.

  • Giselle Harris and Ellie Walter finished the doubles matches strong for the Seahawks in the number three spot. The pair won their match 8-1.

Singles

  • The Seahawks won the two singles matches that were able to be completely played through. Two singles matches were left unfinished and one had no result. 

  • Diana Levit started the number one singles spot off strong with a 6-2 win in the first set. However, the second set was left unfinished as the team met 5 unanswered points. These unanswered points advanced them to the United East Conference Championship.

  • Amber Manspeaker won her first set 6-3 in the number two singles pot. Her second set remained unfinished.

  • Sydney Anderson defeated her Nittany Lion opponent, Elisa Steinhardt, 6-4 in the first set and 6-1 in the second set. This win brought another point to your overall Seahawk score.

  • Giselle Harris swept the number four singles spot, winning both sets 6-0.

  • Ellie Walter began the number five singles spot determined to gain another point for the Seahawks. She won the first set 5-3, but her second remained unfinished.

  • There was no result of the number six singles spot. 

Up Next for the Seahawks

The Seahawks will be back in action on Sunday, April 30th for the United East Conference Championship. St. Mary's College will take on the number two seed, Penn State Harrisburg, Sunday at 11:00 AM for the championship title. On Saturday, April 29th, Penn State Harrisburg beat Lancaster Bible  5-1. The championship will take place at the Hershey Racquet Club.
