Salisbury, MD. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Soccer Team (2-2-1) finished up the final day of the Salisbury Women's Soccer Classic taking on the Mount Saint Mary's Knights (0-4). The Seahawks concluded the tournament by earning their second straight shutout win, beating the Knights 1-0.Â
How it Happened
-
The Seahawks wasted no time getting on the board and took a 1-0 lead just seven minutes into the game.Â
-
Erin Clark got things started in her own defensive end, connecting on a beautiful pass down the far sideline to fellow first year Keira O'Neail, who was able to get behind the Mount Saint Mary's defense. O'Neail was able to draw the attention of the remaining defensive players in her vicinity and sent a ball into the box that found the right foot of Ella Raines. Raines was able to beat the Mount Saint Mary's Goalkeeper to the bottom left corner for her first goal of the season.Â
-
St Mary's would go on to outshoot the Knights 10-2 over the first half and control the momentum, but only led 1-0 going into the intermission.Â
-
The second half played out a lot more evenly between the two squads, as both teams traded scoring opportunities, but could not cash in.Â
-
Ella Raines had a chance to double the Seahawk lead and get her second score of the day on a crossed ball into the box in 55th minutes, but could not get solid contact on the ball and saw it dribble into the goalkeepers handsÂ
-
Kylie Wells came up with some big saves for the Seahawks in the second half after not having to step in front of too many shots in the first.
-
Mount Saint Mary's was able to send one last desperation shot at the goal in the final moments, but it fell harmlessly into the hands of Kylie Wells. St. Mary's held on to win, 1-0.Â
