Women's Soccer Draws Closely Contested Matchup with Stevenson

Stevenson, MD. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Soccer Team (2-2-2) made the two hour trip to Baltimore County, Maryland for a match up with the Mustangs of Stevenson University (2-1-2). Nothing could separate the Seahawks and Mustangs on the scoreboard and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

How it Happened

  • St. Mary's controlled the momentum through a majority of the first half and held a 1-0 lead after 45 minutes.

  • The Seahawks got 12 shots off to start the game compared to the Mustangs three.

  • Morgan Kresslein was the one who found the back of the net for the Seahawks in the 28th minute.

  • The scoring play materialized when Diana Clay stole the ball from the Mustangs on the far side of their attacking end. Clay then advanced the ball to Felicia Fishburne, who immediately returned it to Clay for a well executed give and go. Clay, having a step on her defender, entered the box on the far side and took a shot that was aimed at the bottom right corner, but was knocked away by the Mustang Goalkeeper. Fortunately for the Seahawks, the ball ricocheted right in front of the goal and Kresslein was able to clean up the play and place it in the back of the net for her first goal of the year.

  • The Mustangs entered the second half with new life and tested the Seahawks early, but Emma Tawney was up to the task and saved four shots to begin the new period.

  • The Seahawks were able to keep the Mustangs at bay for a majority of the second half up until the 84th minute. Stevenson had a free kick on the near sideline and sent it into the box. After a several weird bounced, the ball eventually ended up in the back of the net. Madison Rytina was credited with the goal for Stevenson.

  • Allie Petryszak tried to get the lead back for the Seahawks with a last ditch shot in the waning minutes, but saw it go safely into the goalies hands. The game would end in a 1-1 draw.
