Nelson Scores as St. Mary’s College Men’s Soccer Falls to Johns Hopkins

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team battled Wednesday night but came up short to regionally-ranked Johns Hopkins University. St. Mary's College (3-2) dropped a 3-1 decision to the visiting Blue Jays (3-1-2).
 
How It Happened
  • Johns Hopkins' Jonathan Cui gave his team a 2-0 lead in the first 11 minutes of the game as Cui found the back of the net in the second and 11th minute.
  • The Seahawks held JHU scoreless for the remainder of the first half, limiting the visitors to four first-half shots.
  • St. Mary's cut its deficit in half before halftime as sophomore midfielder Jack Nelson (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) slid in for the score in the 36th minute amidst a scramble right in front of the goal.
  • The Seahawks played a man down for the final 17:34 of the contest as sophomore defender Xavier Lewis (Severn, Md./Old Mill) received his second yellow card of the night.
  • The Blue Jays would capitalize on St. Mary's being down a player with an insurance goal in the 77th minute off the foot of Max Edelstein.

  • Shots were even in the second half at five apiece while St. Mary's finished the game with a 14-9 (6-5 on goal) shot advantage.
