Hodges Brace Leads St. Mary’s College Men’s Soccer to Road Win

STAUNTON, Va. – Junior forward Elliot Hodges (Rockville, Md./Avalon) notched his first career multiple-goal game in lifting the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team to the win Tuesday afternoon. St. Mary's College (4-2-1) posted a 5-2 non-conference road win over Mary Baldwin University (0-7-0).
 
How It Happened
  • The Seahawks opened a 3-0 lead in the first 13 minutes of the game as junior forward Alex Ochman (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton) tallied his first goal of the season in the fifth minute followed by Hodges' two scores in the ninth and 13th minutes.
  • Mary Baldwin avoided the shutout in the 21st minute behind a goal from Lyeleson Tavarez and St. Mary's headed into halftime with a 3-1 lead.
  • The Fighting Squirrels pulled within one just nearly 15 minutes into the second half as Phinnie Kamara converted a penalty kick at 58:13.
  • Junior forward Abdoul Anounkou (Togo/Springbrook [Md.]) scored his second of the season in the 72nd minute as Anounkou stepped up to the spot and fired a penalty kick into the back of the net.
  • Sophomore defender Chase Longfield (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) closed out the scoring for the Seahawks with his first goal as a Seahawk in the 89th minute.
