Seahawks Men’s Soccer, Salisbury End in 1-1 Draw

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team recorded their second draw of the season Wednesday night. St. Mary's College (4-2-2) played to a 1-1 draw with Salisbury University (4-1-4) to extend its unbeaten streak to three (1-0-2).

How It Happened
  • The first half proved to be evenly matched between the two sides with Salisbury edging the hosts, 4-3, in both shots and corner kicks. Senior captain Matthew Kopsidas (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton) made three first-half saves to keep it zeroes at the break.
  • The Seahawks capitalized on their first shot of the second frame as senior forward Jason Caro (Lanham, Md./Good Counsel) intercepted SU goalie Josh Wendel's attempted clear and rifled a right-footed shot top shelf for a 1-0 SMCM lead five minutes into the second half.
  • Salisbury upped its attack for the final 40 minutes of the game, outshooting the Seahawks, 15-2, and notching a 5-0 margin in corners.
  • The Sea Gulls avoided the shutout in the 70th minute when Dale Gordon corralled a loose ball at the top of the box and fired a left-footed shot into the lower right corner.
