LANCASTER, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team saw their three-game unbeaten streak snapped Saturday afternoon (Sept. 30) as the Seahawks opened United East Conference action. (4-3-2, 0-1-0 UEC) dropped a 1-0 decision to Lancaster Bible College (4-5-1, 1-1-0 UEC).
How It Happened
- The first half was evenly matched with St. Mary's edging the Chargers, 5-4, in shots and owning a 3-1 margin in corner kicks. Senior Matthew Kopsidas (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton) was tested first in the 25th minute when Ben Nolt got a shot off to the center of the goal before Nate Siers put one past Kopsidas at 31:16 for what turned out to be the game-winning goal.
- Richie Lockard's first test of the game came in the 39th minute when first-year midfielder Braden Kindred (Olney, Md./Sherwood) sent in a shot to the bottom center of the goal.
- The Seahawks were the aggressors in the second half, posting an 8-3 shot advantage and another 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
- St. Mary's generated quality scoring opportunities in the 61st, 79th, and 86th minute but Lockard was up to the challenge as he came up with three stops to preserve the Chargers first conference win of the season. Additionally, fifth-year captain Zack Glime (Annapolis, Md./Key) fired in a shot that went off the crossbar in the waning minutes of the game.
