St. Mary's City, MD. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Soccer Team (3-3-2) hosted the Catholic University Cardinals (4-2-1) in a mid-week, non-conference matchup. The Seahawks fell 2-0 after two late second half goals by the Cardinals.Â
How it Happened
-
The Seahawks and Cardinals were knotted up at 0-0 after the first 45 minutes of play.Â
-
The Cardinals were able to outshoot the Seahawks 11-1 over the first half.
-
Kylie Wells had an active start to the game, picking up four first half saves.
-
Ella Raines registered the lone shot in the half for St. Mary's. Raines attempted a roughly 30 yard boot from the middle of the field that bounced harmlessly into the arms of the Catholic goaltender.Â
-
St. Mary's was able to keep Catholic off the scoreboard for almost 25 minutes into the second half. However, the Cardinals would eventually break through in the 72nd minute on an Ava Gregorio goal.Â
-
The Seahawks nearly had the equalizing goal eight minutes later when Ella Raines received the ball on a throw-in outside the box. Raines was able to turn the corner to the middle of the field and get a shot off with her right foot that was on a direct line to the top right hand corner. Unfortunately for the Seahawks, the Catholic goalkeeper has a great read on it and was able to pluck it out of the air.
-
Catholic would put the game out of reach five minutes later with a AJ Hudock goal.
