St. Mary’s College Field Hockey Drops Road Game at No. 6 Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team picked up their second straight loss Saturday afternoon (Sept. 30) in battling their fifth nationally-ranked foe this season. St. Mary's College (4-4) fell 5-0 to No. 6 Salisbury University (7-2).
 
How It Happened
  • The Seahawks were held shotless in the first 30 minutes while Salisbury built a 2-0 halftime lead behind goals from Kaitlyn DeModna at 7:55 and McKenna Horner at 16:24.
  • SU doubled its lead in the third quarter as Horner and DeModna each notched their second goal of the game at 32:36 and 40:40, respectively.
  • St. Mary's first two shots of the game came in the 41st minute off the sticks of junior captain Charlotte Horn (Schnecksville, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) and first-year forward Elena Pasko (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock), which were blocked and saved, respectively.
  • Marli McDorman tallied the Sea Gulls final goal of the game with less than three minutes left in regulation as McDorman finished off a pass from Mack Dinopoulos.

  • Salisbury posted a 14-3 (8-1 on goal) shot advantage as well as a 9-2 penalty corner margin.
  • The Seahawks notched one corner each in the third and fourth quarters.

  • First-year midfielder Emma Mastrangelo (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) fired off St. Mary's third shot of the game in the 59th minute.
  • First-year Caroline McDonald (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) made two saves while sophomore defender Jena Vanskiver (Fallston, Md./Fallston) recorded her first defensive save of 2023 in the third quarter.
 
Salisbury Game Notes
  • Addy O'Connell needed one save to register her fourth shutout of the season.
  • Salisbury is now on a four-game win streak, notching three shutouts in its last three games.
  • The Sea Gulls lead the all-time series, 30-0, following today's victory.
