Grant Nets 21 as Seahawks Men’s Basketball Sweeps Series with Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior forward Gary Grant (Washington, D.C./Thomas Stone [Md.]) tallied a season-best 21 points in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team to a series sweep of Penn College Saturday afternoon (Jan. 27). St. Mary's College (11-9, 6-1 UEC) earned an 87-78 United East Conference road win over the Wildcats (6-14, 3-5 UEC).
 
How It Happened
  • Penn College claimed an early 6-2 lead on a Ronn Flood, Jr. layup at 17:43.
  • Back-to-back Seahawk layups sparked a 45-21 run to close out the first half as a .513 shooting percentage sent SMCM into the break with a 20-point advantage.
  • A second-half opening three-pointer by David Brown ignited a Wildcat rally, which trimmed the deficit to 50-42 with 15:09 remaining in the game.
  • The Penn College comeback ended there as St. Mary's College rebuilt a double-digit lead, once again owning a 20-point margin at 6:31.

  • First-year guard James Lerner (Herndon, Va./Maret) handed out a game- and season-high seven assists while chipping in four points and two steals.
