Seahawks Men’s Soccer Remains Undefeated in United East Action

MEDIA, Pa. – Four different Seahawks found the back of the net Saturday afternoon (Oct. 12) as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team improved to 4-0 in United East Conference play. St. Mary's College (5-6-2, 4-0-0 UEC) posted a 4-1 road victory over Penn State Brandywine (3-7-3, 0-4-0 UEC).
 
How It Happened
  • The Seahawks netted their first goal of the contest at 9:42. Junior midfielder Jack Nelson (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) headed in senior forward Alex Ochman's (Rockville, Md./Wootton) free kick at the near post for the early 1-0 lead.
  • SMCM headed into halftime with a 2-0 advantage when junior midfielder Ned Schauermann (Edgewater, Md./South River) finished a quick pass from first-year forward Nick Haney (Chesapeake, Md./Northern) into the far side netting at 43:05.
  • Ochman set up St. Mary's College's third goal as well as first-year midfielder Zach Blaum (Richmond, Va./Atlee) flicked in Ochman's corner kick at near post for a three-goal lead at 54:00.
  • The Seahawks garnered a four-goal cushion just over three minutes later when senior forward Abdoul Anounkou (Togo/Springbrook [Md.]) ran onto a leading pass from Blaum and finished into the lower left corner.
  • Brandywine avoided its fourth shutout loss of the season at 62:46 when Kyle Reuter's free kick skirted the right side of the SMCM wall and skipped into goal just inside the near post past an outstretched sophomore goalie Zack Reed (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown).
