SMCM Men’s Soccer Doubles Up Notre Dame (Md.)

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team spread the love Wednesday night (Oct. 16) as six different Seahawks found the back of the net. St. Mary's College (6-6-2, 5-0-0 UEC) clinched a spot in the 2024 United East Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament with a 6-3 victory over Notre Dame of Maryland University (3-10, 2-5 UEC).
 
How It Happened
  • The night's high-scoring affair began early as sophomore forward Lucas Evans (Greenbelt, Md./South River) netted his sixth goal of the season at 1:08 to give the Seahawks a 1-0 lead.
  • Athanasios Ziliaskopoulos evened the score at 15:24 as Ziliaskopoulos put away a loose ball.
  • SMCM then notched three goals in a seven-minute span to claim a 4-1 advantage at 31:03 as forwards Abdoul Anounkou (Togo/Springbrook [Md.]) and Franco Reyes (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) and junior midfielder Jack Nelson (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) all scored.
  • Notre Dame headed into halftime with a two-goal deficit after Adrian Andersen tallied a goal from 20-yards out at 32:29.
  • Ziliaskopoulos pulled the Gators within one at 52:07 as he connected with Carter Hafez's corner kick.
  • Senior forward Alex Ochman (Rockville, Md./Wootton) and first-year forward William Marbray (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) returned a three-goal advantage to St. Mary's College at 73:28.
