St. Mary’s College Men’s Soccer Tames Penn State Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – First-year midfielder Zach Blaum (Richmond, Va./Atlee) netted his first career game-winning goal Saturday afternoon (Oct. 19) to lift the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team to a key United East Conference victory. St. Mary's College (7-6-2, 6-0-0 UEC) left Middletown, Pa., with a 1-0 triumph over league foe, Penn State Harrisburg (12-4-1, 5-1-0 UEC), handing the Lions their first United East loss of the season.

How It Happened

  • Sophomore forward Franco Reyes (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) tested goalie Shayon Kashi in the 39th minute. Junior midfielder Jack Nelson (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) almost had one break the plane, but a Lions' team save cleared it off the line.
  • In the second half, sophomore forward Lucas Evans (Greenbelt, Md./South River) and Blaum each put a shot on frame, but Kashi handled them with ease to keep it scoreless in the 58th minute.
  • The Seahawks finally broke through in the 87th minute when Blaum finished off a feed from Nelson for the eventual game-winner.
