ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Sophomore forward
Elena Pasko (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) had herself a game Thursday night (Oct. 17) in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team to their third straight victory. St. Mary's College (6-9) notched a 7-0 non-conference shutout over Meredith College (3-8) as Pasko tallied a goal and dished out a career-best three assists.
Prior to the start of the game, the Seahawks recognized their four seniors – defenders
Bryce Carlin (Baltimore, Md./Friends) and
Charlotte Horn (Schnecksville, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh), goalkeeper
Kaley Christman (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick), and student assistant
Brigid Mulholland (Silver Spring, Md.) – for their years of dedication and leadership.
How It Happened
- Pasko had a hand in SMCM's first two goals as she set up junior forwards Brenna Ziegler (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) and Emma Watkins (Frederick, Md./Linganore) for a 2-0 home lead at 5:32.
- St. Mary's College ended the first quarter with a 3-0 lead as Watkins struck again at 12:23, one-timing a pass from junior forward Ally Rice (New Market, Md./Oakdale).
- Early in the second period, Pasko gave SMCM a four-goal advantage as she putback the rebound for her first-ever as a Seahawk.
- Meredith generated its only two offensive scoring opportunities of the game midway through the second frame but were unable to find the back of the goal and St. Mary's College went into halftime with a 4-0 lead.
- Ziegler notched her second score of the game at 36:53 as she tapped in Pasko's pass.
- The Seahawks tacked on their final two goals in the fourth when junior midfielder Sofia Lopez (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) and Rice joined the party at 52:22 and 57:02, respectively.

- SMCM posted a 32-2 (24-2 on goal) shot advantage to go along with a 13-4 margin in penalty corners.
- This is St. Mary's College's third straight shutout victory and fifth of the season.

- Watkins and Ziegler both finished with two goals each while Rice registered her first career points with a goal and an assist.
- First-year forward Olivia Schwendeman (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) picked up her first career assist on the Seahawks' final goal of the game.
- Goalkeepers Sophia Kent (Chesterville, Md./Gunston) and Caroline McDonald (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) each made one save in the first half while Christman faced no shots in her 30 minutes of action.
Meredith
- Shae-Lynn Henderson made 17 saves for the Avenging Angels.
