How it Happened

The Seahawks and Phoenix played a back and forth start to the first set. With the score being 16-15, St. Mary's couldn't find any breathing room until a late run allowed them to score six of the next seven points to capture a 22-16 lead. The Seahawks were the beneficiaries of a couple of Phoenix errors and two Gracie Zartman kills. St. Mary's took the first set, 25-20.Â

St. Mary's found themselves trailing midway through the second set. Wilson jumped out to a 14-11 lead. The Seahawks were able to respond by scoring seven unanswered points to recapture the lead thanks to a Lauren Panageotou service run. Grace Gilmore and Julia Bobrowski both recorded two kills during that stretch. The Seahawks clinched the set by scoring the final six points. Margaret McGlothlin came up big with three service aces down the stretch.Â

The Seahawks were able to carry momentum into the third set. St. Mary's gradually pulled away from Wilson and led 17-12 going into the final stretch of the match. Attacking errors continued to plague Wilson in critical moments and the Seahawks were able to take advantage by scoring six of the last seven points of the contest. Alex Williams and Julia Bobrowski both contributed kills down the stretch as the Seahawks bested the Phoenix 25-15 in the final set of play.Â
