OWINGS MILLS, Md. – All five St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball starters netted 10 or more points in leading St. Mary's College to its second straight win Saturday afternoon (Nov. 23). The Seahawks (2-3) notched an 87-73 non-conference victory over Stevenson University (3-1), handing the host Mustangs their first loss of the season.
How It Happened
- SMCM was lights out in the first half, hitting 59.4-perecent of its shots to lead 24-11 with 10:48 remaining. St. Mary's College then headed into halftime with a 46-37 advantage after Myles Jackson made a layup at the buzzer to make it a single-digit deficit for Stevenson.
- Sophomore guard James Lerner (Herndon, Va./Maret) led all scorers with 11 points as Lerner connected on three of the team's five first-half three-point field goals made.
- The Mustangs won the first four minutes of the second half, using a 12-6 run fueled by 10 points from Cameron Smith to pull within three (52-49) at 16:08.
- The Seahawks responded in kind over the next 11 minutes, outscoring the hosts 26-18 over the next 11:21 to set up a double-digit lead that SMCM would not relinquish again. Sophomore guard Ree Smith (Baltimore, Md./City College HS) sparked the run with back-to-back two-point buckets and finished with 12 points.

- St. Mary's College posted a season-best .542-field goal percentage as well as a season-high .381-three-point field goal percentage.
- For the first time this season, the Seahawks won the rebounding battle, notching a +2-rebounding margin behind first-year forward Yassine Idrissa's (Rockville, Md./Wootton) game- and season-best 12 boards.

- Lerner contributed 18 points, five dimes, and four rebounds while Idrissa added 18 points and two blocks to go along with his 12 boards for his second double-double of the season.
- First-year guard Tjay Beckles (Baltimore, Md./Overlea) and junior captain Jake Koverman (Severna Park, Md./Southern) each chipped in 13 points to round out the five double-digit scorers for SMCM.
- Beckles dished out seven assists and picked two pockets while Koverman tallied five caroms, two assists, one block, and one steal.

- Smith paced the Mustangs with a game-best 21 points.
