St. Mary's College Women's Soccer Advances to United East Conference Title Game Following a 2-0 Triumph Over Penn College

Williamsport, PA. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Soccer Team (17-1-3) made the trip to Penn College (15-1-4) for a United East Conference Semifinal tilt. The Seahawks defeated the Wildcats 2-0 to advance the United East Conference Championship Game. 

How it Happened

  • The Wildcats put their first two shots of the game on goal, but Seahawk goalkeeper Kyleigh Bland was up to the task. Bland kept the ball out of the back of the net in the early going as the game remained tied at 0-0 after the first 20 minutes. 

  • After a couple of off target shots in the early part of the game, the Seahawks finally managed to put one on goal and they were rewarded for it. Morgan Kresslein beat the Seahawk goalkeeper to give St. Mary's a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute. Kresslein was assisted by Gracie Tourangeau on the play. 

  • The Seahawks maintained their 1-0 lead going into the half. Penn College held a slight advantage in shots of the course of the first frame, edging St. Mary's 5-4. 

  • Kyleigh Bland made four first half saves. 

  • The Seahawks and Wildcats exchanged a pair of off target shots before the Seahawks broke the game open with their second shot on goal of the evening. Megan Rusk added the second tally of the game for St. Mary's in the 53rd minute to give them a 2-0 advantage. Flor Katz-Starr picked up the assist on the goal. 

  • Penn College would have a few more opportunities to close out the game, but Kyleigh Bland and the Seahawk defense were up to the task. St. Mary's maintained their shutout and came out on top, 2-0. 

  • The Wildcats finished with more shots than the Seahawks, leading them in the count 11-8, but the Seahawks were able to capitalize on both shots they put on goal.
